Vietnam Farmers’ Union – Danish Agriculture and Food Council: Ready for cooperation and share

(VNFU Portal) – Above is the wish of both the leader of VNFU and leader of Danish Agriculture and Food Council at the meeting session between the parties held on May 28th, 2019.
Continuing the business trip in Danish, the Party Delegation of Vietnam Farmers’ Union headed by Comrade Thao Xuan Sung, Member of Central Party Committee, Secretary of Party and Chairman of VNFU paid a visit and had working session with Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAFC).

At the meeting, Chairman of  Danish Agriculture and Food Council, Mr. Martin Merrild showed his pleasure to receive Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union and the delegation. Mr. Martin Merrild provide an overview on the development status in agriculture and foods sectors of Denmark, at the same time affirmed its readiness in cooperating and sharing with Danish Agriculture and Food Council in sectors in which both parties are concerned.

For the Union’s part, Chairman Thao Xuan Sung gave thanks to Mr. Martin Merrild and his partners who had spent their time on receiving the delegation in respectful and sincere manner; at the same time, he also sent his celebration to Danish Agriculture and Food Council for its outstanding achievement in agriculture and food in the past time. Besides, he also expressed his wish on two parties’ close cooperation in the near future in order to deploy specific cooperation projects, assisting Vietnam’s agriculture toward modern and sustainable development.
 
 The meeting session saw the attendance of leaders and senior officials of VNFU, Danish Agriculture and Food Council, Agricultural Development Denmark Asia, Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association
 
Denmark possesses the highest share market on organic products worldwide, accounting for about 12% of the total amount of retailing foods market of 2018 year. Organic production in Denmark is under strict and thorough inspection of the state authorities covering the entire value chain, from the farms to the dining tables.   Particularly, it is prohibited from the use ofinorganic fertilizers, chemical pesticides and genetically modified products. It is permitted to use processed organic products, natural additives with limited quantity. In organic husbandry, the animals are raised in natural environment with adequate space and light.
At the meeting, senior officials of Danish Agriculture and Food Council also introduced and shared Denmark’s experiences on organic agricultural production and measures for preventing the spread of African hog cholera – two hot issues concerned by the Vietnam Farmers’ Union.
 
Denmark is one of the leading pork exporters in the world. Thus, it seriously attaches crucial importance on the prevention of the African hog cholera spread, especially at the times when there has signs of widespread outbreak of the epidemic in a number of countries in the world. Particularly, since the African hog cholera outbreak in Baltics on February, 2014, the agricultural sector of Denmark has devised specific action plan to closely monitoring its development and spread as well as sought all necessary measures to reduce all potential threats. In addition to veterinary related measures (such as enhancing the disease controlling, communicating on biological safety, prohibiting to feed pigs with residual foods from human, etc.), it also makes plans to destroy boar to prevent the spread of the disease from neighboring countries.
