FIGNAHB Project: Training for facilitators on farmer credit scheme

On April 15-16, 2014, in Vinh city (Nghe An province), the Project Management Unit-Nghe An Farmers’ Union organized the training course on farmer credit scheme for project facilitators under the framework of the project titled “Strengthening Farmer Interest Groups (FIGs) among Ethnic Minorities in Nghe An and Hoa Binh provinces”.

The training belongs to the series of project activities which is aimed at reaching the output "By 2015, 110 FIGs are aware of the possibilities of getting loans for production from either Farmers' Union managed funding or any other local credit agencies" and providing the participants with the information about rural and people credit funds and communicating method at the grassroots levels

After two days of training, the trainees were aware of the knowledge about the provincial farmer credit fund and the Decree No.41/2010/ND-CP dated 12/04/2010 of the Government on Credit policies for agricultural and rural development. These sources of fund are accessible to FIGs, especially to cooperative groups. Besides, the trainees were instructed to prepare documentations and procedures for being granted loans from provincial farmer assisting fund which is managed by Vietnam Farmers’ Union and Nghe An Farmers’ Union. Owing to the learning and practicing method and group works, common credit issues were raised for intensive discussion so that the participants has obtained training contents thoroughly.

The training course would be also seen as an opportunity for local facilitators of two provinces to exchange their practices and difficulties in assisting FIGs to increase livelihoods and maintain the sustainability of cooperative groups. Leaving the training course, the facilitators will distribute the information to FIGs about opportunities and limitations of the loans available for the farmer groups.
