International Conference on PGS in Vietnam
On 25 and 26 September 2013 at the headquarter of the Vietnam Farmers' Union the International Conference "Promotion of PGS in Vietnam" was held by Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA) and VECO. Speech by Dr. Ha Phuc Mich, VOAA Chairman, at the opening ceremony affirmed the result of the conference would be the orientation for VOAA to develop the PGS strategies in Vietnam in the future.
Participants of the conference are representatives from IPSARD, CASRAD, the Department of Crops Production (MARD), international and Vietnamese NGOs, and PGS producers and consumers. Dr. Andrew Leu, chairman of IFOAM, shared the development trend of PGS in the world. He also congratulated the recent achievement of PGS Vietnam when becoming a member of IFOAM. Presentations on the operation of PGS in India, the Philippines, the New Zealand, and Vietnam were introduced in the conference. A study visit was organised for participants to an organic farm at Thanh Xuan Commune, Soc Son District, Hanoi and some organic shops that were selling PGS products.
The National Representative of ADDA in Vietnam, Mr. Kenneth Høegh, attended the conference and expressed his excitement when observing the continuous development of Organic Project that ADDA started in 2004. It has contributed not only to the improvement of livelihood of farmers but also to the diversification of quality agricultural products and consumer options.
